چکیده

Offshore wind resources are abundant. Vertical axis turbines (VAWTs) suitable for working in the sea environment because of their low cost and high reliability. In this paper, an offshore floating inverted cone vertical turbine (ICVAWT) is proposed. The 3D unsteady computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method utilized to model ICVAWT. turbulence SST k−ω used solve Navier–Stokes equation, setting parameters solver independent grid determined. scale experimental prototype designed using similarity theory tunnel experiment carried out. results verify validity CFD model. aerodynamic performance nine ICVAWT configurations analyzed by model, effects angle blade number on power coefficient operation stability studied. It found that when 45°, blades three (called optimal configuration), highest at 0.309 (the tip speed ratio 3.5). With increase number, fluctuation operating torque decreases. According distribution each physical quantity flow field, changes explained. Further research optimized configuration

Unsteady aerodynamic performance of Dual-Row H-Darrieus vertical axis wind turbine

H-rotor Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) is one of the most efficient energy suppliers which have been investigated in many recent types of research. The aim of this work is to study the aerodynamic performance of a doubled-row H-Darrieus VAWT. First, an ordinary three-bladed VAWT with NACA4415 profile is simulated by means of 3D computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and results are compared to a...

Aerodynamic Analysis of a Helical Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are gradually receiving more and more interest due to their lower sensitivity to the yawed wind direction. Compared with straight blades VAWT, blades with a certain helicity show a better aerodynamic performance and less noise emission. Nowadays computational fluid dynamics technology is frequently applied to VAWTs and gives results that can reflect real flow...

Effect of rotor blade position on Vertical Axis Wind Turbine performance

In this paper a numerical study is presented with the aim of evaluating the performance output of three Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) configurations. Here using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) a two-dimensional Multi Reference Frame (MRF) approach has been used to perform steady state simulations. For this purpose an inlet velocity of 4m/s has been used along with rotor blade Tip Speed R...

Vertical Axis Wind Turbine Case Study

This case study investigates the generator of a large offshore Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). In particular this case study focuses on the effect of the inherent cyclic torque loading of the VAWT on the generator in terms of the costs and losses experienced. A spectrum of torque control strategies were created based on the ratio q of the allowed electrical torque variation to the mechanical...
